The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University (MCG) describes itself as one of the nation’s first public medical schools, says it gives preference to Georgia residents, and interviews through a multiple mini-interview. Here’s what MCG publishes for the Class of 2029, and how to read it. No odds, just sourced facts.
“The Admissions Committee strives to identify and accept applicants who will help meet the health care needs of a widely dispersed and highly diverse Georgia population.”MCG general admissions guidelines4
The words to notice are widely dispersed and Georgia. The same guidelines tie the school to improving health and reducing the burden of illness on society, and the class fact sheet names collegiality, compassion, excellence, inclusivity, integrity and leadership as core values.41 Among the criteria the committee lists are “region of residence with respect to its health professional needs” and “commitment to practice in an underserved area of Georgia.”4 The Class of 2029 fact sheet lists 49 Georgia counties and counts 71 students from underserved counties.1 The signal is that a believable reason to practice in Georgia is read as part of the mission, not as decoration.
MCG describes a broad-based curriculum meant to prepare graduates for any field of medicine, and says it is increasing early clinical experiences, emphasizing self-motivated learning and integrating the basic and clinical sciences.7 Where you train is part of the picture:
MCG says its committee evaluates each applicant holistically, in the context of the file, using the AAMC experiences, attributes and metrics model.5 Its guidelines list the inputs: responsibilities before medical school, extracurricular and community activities, shadowing and clinical volunteering, region of residence, commitment to practice in an underserved area of Georgia, letters, motivation, MMI performance, MCAT and college grades.4 MCG also publishes a floor: applicants with a GPA below 3.0 or an MCAT below 496 “are not considered competitive for interview.”2 That is a minimum, not a target.
Prerequisites are a year of biology or zoology with lab, a year of chemistry that includes organic chemistry and biochemistry, a year of physics with two semesters of lab, a year of English and a semester of statistics; AP credit may place you out of physics, English and statistics but not biology or chemistry.5 MCG expects a minimum of 200 hours of clinical experience and demonstrated service to the community, and the MCAT must be no more than three years old at matriculation.5 Preference is given to Georgia residents, and applicants who claim Georgia residency must do so on AMCAS by Nov. 1, with no changes afterward.3
MCG interviews are by invitation only and use a multiple mini-interview. The interview page describes 7 stations of 8 minutes each over a 90-minute period, designed to assess personal characteristics against the AAMC’s core competencies for entering medical students.2 The page says MMIs for the 2025–2026 application cycle will be conducted virtually. As of October 1, 2026 it still carries that label and we found no newer statement, so confirm the format for your own cycle with MCG before you plan.2 MCG also links the AAMC’s reference page on what a multiple mini-interview is like, a sensible place to start practicing short, structured answers.2
After your AMCAS primary, MCG sends its secondary application, and it says it charges no additional application fee beyond the AMCAS fee.5 Secondary documents are due within two weeks of receipt and must be in your file by Dec. 1; the AMCAS primary deadline is Nov. 1 and transcripts are due Nov. 15.3 MCG requires at least three current letters through AMCAS and will not review a file without all three, and it strongly recommends that one personal letter come from a physician who can speak to your clinical experience.5 The secondary prompts are not published on the pages we reviewed.
MCG publishes tuition per semester, not per year. For Fall 2026 through Summer 2027, full-time M.D. tuition (12 or more hours) is $15,024.00 per semester for Georgia residents and $31,956.00 per semester for non-residents, with mandatory fees of $1,012.50 per semester listed separately.6 We show it as MCG prints it and do not convert it to an annual figure. Regular Decision applicants must have taken the MCAT by Sept. 12, 2026.3
MCG tends to fit applicants with a real Georgia tie and a plan to practice there, since the guidelines weigh region of residence, underserved-area commitment and Georgia’s health-professional needs, and the school says it gives preference to Georgia residents.43 The fact sheet shows how that played out in one class: four non-Georgia residents among 304 matriculated students. That is a fact about one class, not a rule, but it is worth weighing if you are applying from out of state.1 It suits someone comfortable with short, structured MMI stations, with at least 200 hours of clinical exposure, and open to being assigned to a regional clinical campus.253 It fits less naturally an applicant who needs a published science GPA, published secondary prompts, or a single annual tuition figure.16
MCG’s Class of 2029 averages (MCAT 512, GPA 3.8) describe a strong academic class of 304 matriculated students. They are averages, not cutoffs. But MCG is explicit that it weighs where you come from and where you plan to practice, and its fact sheet counts four non-Georgia residents among the 304. The read: a genuine Georgia connection, steady clinical exposure and service to underserved communities give you the most to work with, and your performance across short MMI stations is part of the file. That is a judgment about fit, not a prediction of admission. We publish no odds.
Preceptorly is admissions software built by a practicing physician. It matches your real numbers to each school's published averages — never fake odds — and coaches the parts that actually decide your cycle:
For the Class of 2029 (the 2025 entering class), MCG’s fact sheet publishes an average MCAT of 512 and an average overall GPA of 3.8 for 304 matriculated students. They are averages, not minimums.1
MCG describes a multiple mini-interview of 7 stations of 8 minutes each over a 90-minute period. Its interview page says MMIs for the 2025–2026 application cycle will be conducted virtually and still carries that label, so confirm the format for your own cycle.2
MCG says preference is given to Georgia residents, and the Class of 2029 fact sheet counts 4 non-Georgia residents among 304 matriculated students. MCG also requires applicants who claim Georgia residency to make that claim on AMCAS by Nov. 1.31
MCG prints tuition per semester. For Fall 2026 through Summer 2027, full-time M.D. tuition (12 or more hours) is $15,024.00 for Georgia residents and $31,956.00 for non-residents, with mandatory fees of $1,012.50 listed separately.6
Students on the Augusta campus may be assigned to a regional clinical campus during clinical years. The Class of 2029 fact sheet counts 21 students in a Regional Clinical Campus Pathway, 13 on the Northwest Campus and 8 on the Southwest Campus. MCG also says there is no separate admissions process for its Medical Partnership Campus; campus preference is requested after an acceptance and is not guaranteed.31
MCG lists a year of biology or zoology with lab, a year of chemistry (one semester organic, one semester biochemistry), a year of physics with two semesters of lab, a year of English and one semester of statistics. AP credit may be used for non-biology and non-chemistry courses if your college accepts it and it appears on your transcript.5
Figures are MCG’s own published Class of 2029 averages for matriculated students, labeled as averages as the school labels them — not cutoffs. The interview description carries MCG’s 2025–2026 cycle label; secondary prompts are not stated on the pages we reviewed. Tuition is MCG’s per-semester figure and excludes living costs. No acceptance rate or admission odds are shown, by policy. Not affiliated with or endorsed by MCG; confirm all requirements on the school's official pages. Nothing here predicts an admission decision.
