The University of Kentucky College of Medicine (UK) is a state medical school with four campuses, in-person interviews at the campus you choose first, and a stated preference for Kentucky residents. Here’s what UK publishes for the Class of 2029, and how to read it. No odds, just sourced facts.
“The University of Kentucky College of Medicine promotes an environment that encourages excellence in education, access to high-quality health care, and transformative research to improve the health and wellness of Kentuckians and beyond.”University of Kentucky College of Medicine2
The word to notice is Kentuckians. UK’s eligibility page says that, as a state medical school, it gives preference to Kentucky residents, that non-residents with strong ties to the state (for example, previous attendance at a Kentucky college or university) may be considered, and that it values demonstrated interest in serving rural Appalachian counties and patient populations that face barriers to care.2 It adds that it strives for each class to represent the people of Kentucky.2 The Class of 2029 profile counts 156 Kentucky residents among 208 matriculated students and lists 56 rural Kentucky residents.1 The signal is that a specific, believable tie to Kentucky communities reads as central here.
UK describes one integrated M.D. delivered across multiple campuses: a core principles phase in years one and two, an application phase in year three with nine required clinical clerkships taken one at a time, and fourth-year flexibility to choose courses relevant to your goals.6 Interactive large-group sessions stream simultaneously to the Lexington, Bowling Green and Northern Kentucky campuses.6 The four campuses are the distinctive part:
The Class of 2029 profile prints the split as 131 students at Lexington, 12 at Morehead, 30 at Bowling Green and 35 at Northern Kentucky.1
UK lists the minimums for consideration: a verified AMCAS application, ninety hours of undergraduate study in the United States, a “competitive” undergraduate and graduate science GPA, and an MCAT earned within two calendar years before the cycle begins (for the 2026 cycle, the oldest score accepted is January 2024).23 For what “competitive” means, UK points applicants to its annual class profile.2 Required courses are two physics courses (6 credit hours), two biology courses (6), four chemistry courses (12) including one organic chemistry and one biochemistry, and two courses involving critical writing, synthesis of scholarship and oral presentation (6); AP credit is accepted if your college accepts it.7 UK recommends anatomy, statistics, psychology and other courses but says those choices will not influence admission decisions.7
Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are considered. Ohio residents from Butler, Hamilton, Warren, Clermont, Clinton, Brown, Highland, Adams, Ross, Pike, Scioto and Lawrence counties are considered for the Northern Kentucky campus only.2
UK conducts in-person interviews. Completed files are reviewed for interview consideration, invited applicants interview at the site of their first-choice campus, and the earliest invitations go out in July on a rolling basis.3 You pick a date in UK’s online system after that campus sends instructions.3 The how-to-apply page carries no year label and does not name the interview style, so we cite it as UK’s current page and do not label the format. One structural fact matters: if you are offered admission, you sign an acceptance agreement that binds you to the site where you interviewed, due within two weeks of the decision letter, which is why your first-choice campus is a real decision.3
The supplemental application asks you to explain, in a brief essay, why you chose your first-choice campus.3 The supplemental deadline is Nov. 30 (11:59 p.m. ET), the fee is $50 (waived for applicants with AAMC Fee Assistance Program benefits), and the form, fee and all required letters must be in by then.34 Letters go through AMCAS only and must carry a wet signature. You use a premedical committee letter, a letter packet from your advisor, or three individual letters: a faculty member in your major, a faculty member in a biology, chemistry, physics or math course, and one of your choosing.3 The verified AMCAS deadline is Nov. 1, and Oct. 15 is the earliest date of admission action for regular M.D. applicants.4
UK lists 2026–2027 annual cost of $42,773.50 for Kentucky residents and $78,045.00 for non-residents. Those figures are labeled “Annual Cost (includes mandatory fees),” so they are tuition plus mandatory fees, and UK does not publish a tuition-only split on that page.8 The page says M.D. rates are “locked-in” for each entering class cohort, and UK’s cost page describes a tuition guarantee program, begun in 2007, under which each entering class pays a set tuition that stays constant for the four years.89 On UK’s dates page for Cycle 2027, the scholarship priority date is Jan. 1 (with the FAFSA complete) and the commit-to-enroll deadline is June 11.4
UK tends to fit applicants with a real Kentucky tie: the school says it gives preference to Kentucky residents, and the Class of 2029 profile counts 156 Kentucky residents among 208 matriculated students.21 It suits someone with a record of service in rural or Appalachian communities, since UK names those areas in its mission-related criteria.2 It fits applicants who can say which of the four campuses suits them and why, because the secondary asks and the interview site binds the acceptance.3 Ohio residents from the listed counties have a defined route to the Northern Kentucky campus.2 It fits less naturally an applicant with no Kentucky ties, someone who wants to interview remotely, or someone who wants a tuition-only figure to compare.238
UK’s Class of 2029 averages (MCAT 508, undergraduate total GPA 3.84, undergraduate science GPA 3.78) describe a strong academic class of 208 matriculated students. They are averages, not cutoffs. But UK says plainly that it gives preference to Kentucky residents, and its profile counts 156 Kentucky residents among the 208. The read: a specific tie to Kentucky communities, service in rural or underserved settings, and a reasoned choice of campus give you the most to work with. That is a judgment about fit, not a prediction of admission. We publish no odds.

For the Class of 2029 (entered 2025, 208 matriculated students), UK publishes an average MCAT of 508, an average undergraduate total GPA of 3.84 and an average undergraduate science GPA of 3.78. They are averages, not minimums.1
Yes, it is in person. UK says invited applicants interview at the site of their first-choice campus, with the earliest invitations going out in July on a rolling basis. The pages we reviewed do not name the interview style.3
UK has four campuses: Lexington, Bowling Green, Morehead (the Rural Physician Leadership Program) and Northern Kentucky. It encourages applicants to attend open houses and tours, the supplemental application asks why you chose your first-choice campus, and an accepted applicant is bound to the site where they interviewed.735

Figures are UK’s own published Class of 2029 averages for matriculated students, labeled as averages as the school labels them — not cutoffs. The interview style and secondary essay prompts other than the first-choice-campus essay are not stated on the pages we reviewed. Cost figures include mandatory fees and exclude living costs.
